About Mr Szechuan

Located at 890 Taraval St, San Francisco, CA 94116, Mr Szechuan operates as a szechuan serving San Francisco in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in San Francisco; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 4 pm–1 am. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (415) 753-8788. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is mrszechuan.shop, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.3 out of 5 from 821 reviews, which is a strong result for a szechuan in San Francisco and suggests consistent service.

San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and San Francisco follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

I was hungry one night when I needed something that was still open after a late night at work. After seeing that Mr Szechuans was open , I decided to give it a try. The plan was to my wife back a plate so we could share one together. I ordered the beef chow mein. I was hungry so I I tried it when I got back to my car. It was so good the plan had changed. I now was going to eat my portion and bring hers. But then the stop light came. And I had to eat more. And in the 10 stops it took to get home, the plan had changed again. If she was hungry I would cook because there was nothing left to shareπŸ«ͺπŸ™„ 10/10 That beef chow mein is so good that I haven’t even tried anything else. That’s my go to dish every I’m hungry and don’t want to cook! ( And my wife’s too) Alvin is a very pleasant host and always accommodating Highly recommend!

Everything was super tasty. Even though I just came back from China 2 weeks ago, I could not tell the difference between the great food here and what I had in China, which speaks to the authenticity of this place.

Depending on the chef you get, and if anyone sees your white friend's face, your spice levels may vary. If you want spices, probably hide your white friend when ordering, then tell them to come in when the food is on your table. When it does come though, try not to act surprised. Heard a guy at another table yell, γ€Œε˜©οΌε™‰ε’ε€§ε…œε‘€οΌŸοΌγ€ Yeah, the portions here can be pretty big for some dishes. I could tell the chef was using a Cantonese method to tenderize the meats. Most Sichuan places wouldn't bother with that, but I prefer that tenderized texture, honestly. My friend comes here multiple times, and even said the spiciness consistency can vary.

We traveled all the way from the East Bay specifically looking for authentic food, and Mr. Szechuan did not disappoint! We arrived around 10 PM and the restaurant was packed with dine in and online orders. Even though they were clearly understaffed, our waiter was incredible. He was honest about the wait up front and handled the pressure with a huge smile. He even spoke a little Hindi to us, saying β€œDhanyavad” (thank you), which made us feel so welcome. The food arrived right on time and was absolutely delicious. The Veggie Hot and Sour Soup, Spicy Chicken, and Crab Fried Rice were all 10/10. The portions are so generous we even had to take a To Go box. Best Asian cuisine in town!

Absolutely loved this place. Started with the chili wontons which were excellent, and then got the Sichuan dry pot which was incredible. Very generous portions for price, and the sauce was so damn good. Staff was super friendly, and the food came out quick! Easy five stars.
